Michal Korman (1987) began his art education at the age of five when the Slovak academic painter Jozef Jelenak (working in tradition of first wave of expressionism) admitted him to his courses for children at the school of art in Michal’s home town Partizanske, having formed Michal’s artistic foundations during three years.
In 2005 the fruits of Korman’s artistic approach were displayed at two exhibitions: a group exhibition in mid-summer of at the local art festival and his first solo exhibition in December at the annual festival of arts in Bánovce where he manifested his specific style: a combination of graphic-like oil painting branded with the signature as a logotype-to-be. In 2006, under the tuition of the designer Kornelia Lobotkova, Michal mastered the four-year curriculum at the school of art in only two years and graduated with a diploma. Since the graduation he has continued to develop his personal style of traditional oil painting using figurative motifs and inspiration from traveling; this lead to his first solo exhibition outside Slovakia in Brussels in 2009.
Belgium also saw him one of the Committee of Regions Forum’s 100 Young European Creative People of Exceptional Telent Awardees 2009 – the selection organised by Europe’s Creative Cities and Regions on the occasion of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.
Michal lives and works in Paris.
